I may have had a embarrassingly amount of fun celebrating my pups first birthday…but I can’t help myself! I made him a doggy friendly cake, which he loved (recipe below)! People can totally eat it, but it’s not recommended.
I’ve never made a doggy cake before, so I browsed through Pinterest and various blogs to find the perfect grain-free cake and I came across this one. I changed a few things around, but all in all this recipe was my inspiration. Few ingredients, all things I would eat…didn’t taste great to me, but Calvin LOVED IT!
Strawberry Pup Cake:
- 1 3/4c almond flour
- 1 tbsp honey, raw
- 2 eggs
- a splash of almond milk, unsweetened
- 1-2 tbsp coconut oil (to grease the ramekins/muffin tins)
- 4-5 strawberries, chopped/sliced
Creamy Nut Frosting:
- 1c plain non-fat greek yogurt (I used Chobani, it has the fewest grams of sugar/cup)
- 2 tbsp. almond butter
- 1/2 tbsp. PB2
Preheat the oven to 350°F. For the cake I simply put all the cake ingredients in a bowl (except for the strawberries) and mixed until smooth. Then folded in the strawberries. I greased medium/small sized ramekins with coconut oil, although muffin tins or mini muffin tins would work as well. Bake for 15-20 min, or until golden brown on top. Allow to cool for 20-30 minutes before removing from the ramekins.
While the cakes are cooling, make the yogurt frosting. Mix the yogurt and nut butter together, then add the PB2 in and blend until smooth. Place one cake on a plate and place a dollop of yogurt frosting, smooth out. Place second cake on top and cover with the remaining frosting.
Slice a strawberry and a couple of banana slices and place on top for decoration. Your pup will appreciate it 🙂
